4th ANNUAL ST. MARYS STORYTELLING FESTIVAL

“Once Upon a Thames”

Schedule for September 7, 8, and 9, 2007

 
Note:  If you are coming to an evening concert, please bring jackets and/or blankets.  September evenings can be chilly.


Friday, September 7

Daytime, 9:30 to 10:30 and 1:45 to 2:45:
Local schools visit the festival
Performers: Emerita Emerencia www.eemerencia.com and Mike Ford www.mikeford.ca
Students pay $2.

Evening, 7 to 9 p.m. Family Storytelling Concert
With Aaron Bell (Ojibway Storyteller), Emerita Emerencia, Mike Ford, Gail Fricker, and Arnot McCallum.

Saturday, September 8

Morning, 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. : Three Storytelling Workshops:
 
1. “Come All Ye Bold Canadians” An introduction to Canadian traditional songs presented by Lorne Brown, ballad singer, storyteller, banjo player, and
Jean Mills, master of the Appalachian dulcimer.
 
2. “Telling your Life: Personal Stories Workshop presented by Helen Porter, storyteller extraordinaire.
 
3. “Origami: Stories Unfolding
An Intergenerational Workshop for Adults and Children 8+
presented by Diane Halpin, multi-talented storyteller.

Registration fee for workshops: $35. Please call Nancy Vermond at 519-284-2698 to register.

 

11 to 12 noon: Adwoa Badoe, author/storyteller/dancer, in the Children’s tent.
Co-sponsored by the St. Marys Public Library. All ages. Free.


Noon to 4 pm.: Food Vendors are on the Flats to serve you lunch and snacks.

Storytelling from 1 to 5 pm in three tents. Admission by donation:

Canada in Story and Song (not necessarily in this order):
Mike Ford, Mary-Eileen McClear and Gail Fricker, Lorne Brown and Jean Mills, and Aaron Bell, Ojibway storyteller.

Children’s Tent (not necessarily in this order):
Emerita Emerencia, Arnot McCallum, and Adwoa Badoe.


Adult Tent (not necessarily in this order):
Barry Rosen and Brenda Byers, Helen Porter, Bruce Carmody and Janice Turner, and Bernice Hune and Dianne Chandler.


Saturday evening, 8 to 10pm: Concert for adults and older children (8+)
With Lorne Brown and Jean Mills, Bruce Carmody, Bernice Hune, Emerita Emerencia, Helen Porter, and Janice Turner. Admission by donation.

Sunday, September 9:

10:30 to noon: Story Swap in the adult tent (free)


2 to 4 p.m. Special Grandparents’ Day Concert of music and stories:
featuring singer/ songwriter Ian Bell, the band No Discernable
Key, storytellers Bruce Carmody, Janice Turner, Gail Fricker,
and Nancy Vermond. Admission by donation.
